Do you know the secret of Geneva's Great Fountain

With a height of 140 meters, 500 liters of water per second and a flow rate of 200 kilometers per hour, Jet d 'Eau is a # Geneva city landmark! As one of the highest fountains in the world, anywhere in Geneva, you can see its spectacular figure above the city. Even when flying at an altitude of more than 10 kilometers, the large fountain can bring stunning scenery to the travelers who pass by.

As one of the must-see attractions in Geneva, did you know that the birth of the Great Fountain and Geneva's famous watch industry are inseparable? At the end of the 19th century, watch craftsmen in Geneva used the energy generated by the hydroelectric power plant on the Rhone River to operate their machines. In order to release the excessive water pressure caused by the cessation of activities at night, they created an open-air outlet for the overpressured water flow, which is the birth of the Great fountain. When it was born in 1886, the fountain was a "mere" 30 meters.

This open-air valve created by the watch industry occasionally inspires excitement and enthusiasm, becoming a spot for locals and tourists alike to clock in and enjoy. A few years later, Geneva decided to turn it into a real tourist attraction. So when the time came in 1891, the Great Fountain was moved to the end of the Eaux-Vives pier in the center of Lake Geneva, and the new Great Fountain was truly born!

In 1951, thanks to a pumping station on the lake, the height of the great fountain rose from a stunning 90 meters to a stunning 140 meters. It is worth mentioning that in order to protect the houses and buildings around Lake Geneva, the height of the large fountain has reached the maximum, and can not exceed this height, otherwise there will be splashing water to touch the surrounding buildings.

On ordinary days, the large white fountain and blue sky and clear water each other, the beautiful lake scenery makes all the locals and tourists who come here enchanted, but in special festivals and major commemorative activities, the lighting system of the lake will turn the large fountain into a gorgeous colorful scenery!

If you want to get close to the fountain, you can go deep into Lake Geneva along the pedestrian passage through the pier, let the cool water mist drift with the wind, and enjoy the colorful light reflected by the delicate water droplets of the great fountain in the sun.

Take a stroll on the lakeside walkway or in the pearl park, sunbathe in the Baths of Paquis, take a yellow boat ride across Lake Geneva, or look out on the lake from the towers of the Old Town, and don't forget to take a photo with the beautiful fountain, and record your bright smile and photos of your life beside Geneva's most famous landmarks
