I came to Hokkaido three times in summer, autumn and winter, and the most boring place was Sapporo, until the last day of my trip, I went here.

Giant head Buddha
The Buddha statue is located in the Makomauchi Takino Spirit Garden in the southern suburbs of Sapporo City. It was designed and built by architect Tadao Ando to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Spirit Garden. What makes the whole statue special is that it is hidden under an artificial hill, with only the top of the head visible.

Such a design is reminiscent of the ancient Chinese grottoes, where the "hidden" Buddha statues are full of mystery. Unlike most Buddha statues we see today, this one actually has a beard. The same is true of Takaoka Buddha in Hokuriku, which I visited before.

Looking up at this 13.5 meter high Buddha statue, there is a quiet power. In particular, the reflection of light and shadow presents the constantly changing Buddha shadow, perceiving the silent vitality of all things during the passage of time.

In fact, the hill is a sea of 150,000 lavender plants, and in summer, the Buddha's head can be seen faintly in the purple sea of summer.

In addition, at the entrance of the Spirit Garden there is a row of "Easter Island" huge moai statues, and against the winter snow, let people have an unreal illusion.

TIPS:
Be sure to bring a wide Angle, if there is no mobile phone, the effect is not the same! It is recommended to go in the morning, when the face of the Buddha is in the direction of the light, it will be more clear and shocking. Please keep quiet and no noise during filming.
