Today, I will tell you about a small town I went to before! Julian! Julian is a small town with only one street and many hidden places to punch the card. Each time we come here, we can do something different. After all, the time of a Day Trip is limited, so we can choose one or two things to do each time and leave something to think about next time.
The town is not large, the population has been maintained in the hundreds of years, a main street will prop up the entire city facade, but this hidden in the mountains of gold mining town, known as the best apple pie in California.
🏠 Julian Pioneer Museum
California's historic landmark, in an 1800's blacksmith shop! There are a lot of historical artifacts and art, Native American artifacts, mining artifacts, Victorian pianos, historical photos... It's a great way to learn about California's mining and town history.
🦅 Eagle and High Point Gold Mine
Julian has a history of gold mining between 1870 and 1900, and the local tourism Bureau set up this gold park to show the whole process of mining! This gold mine is a restored mine and can be visited inside. It looked like 1870! Friends who like to explore, there is a Hardrock tunnel, you can experience the process of hard rock mining and mine history
🌋 Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve
The reserve is located on the slopes of Volcan Mountain, 2miles from the town of Julian. Suitable for hiking! Walk five miles through the volcanic caldera to reach the summit and see the magnificent coastline and desert. The 2,900 acres of conifers, oaks and bear trees give it the feel of a big forest. The 5.4-mile round trip hiking trail up the mountains also offers desert and mountain and sea views of San Diego on a clear day.
🐺 California Wolf Center
📍K Q Ranch Road &, Tall Pine Rd, Julian, CA 92036
This time we visited the CA Wolf Center, a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to Wolf conservation, research and education. Established in 1977 to protect the endangered Northwestern Wolf and Mexican gray Wolf. Alarmingly, the Mexican gray Wolf was once on the brink of extinction, with numbers down to just 12. However, through conservation and breeding programs, the Mexican gray Wolf population has rebounded to about 200 individuals.
Our Tour guide is an animal research scientist. Although the tour content is not much, her vivid explanation made us feel that we learned a lot in one hour, and it was not boring at all. We also saw the Northwestern Wolf and the Mexican gray Wolf up close, which is the most in-depth experience I have had with wolves since I was a child.
This tour is $45 per person and every ticket goes to help protect our nature. I still recommend this tour, the Wolf field is about 10 minutes away from Julian city center, you need to buy tickets in advance.
🍎 Julian Pie Company for apple pie
📍2225 Main St, Julian, CA 92036
Apple Pie can be bought all over town, but the most popular are Mom's Apple Pie and Julian Pie Company. They were the only two homes Julian had visited many times in the decade or so he lived in San Diego, and they were the only ones that lined up at any given time, many of them driving hours for this bite and packing boxes to take home. The former did not leave a deep impression on me, so this return visit, the only appetite left only to the latter. The fresh apple pie is hot to the mouth, and a little money can have a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, although it can not avoid the common problem of the American dessert has always been overturned sugar jar, but it is really delicious. Under the warm pie lie chunks of apple, one of Julian's main economic sources, crisp, sweet and juicy. Don't forget to buy a bottle of ancient Apple Cider, rich and mellow lips and teeth, after drinking even less look at the apple juice in the supermarket
🍯 Trumper’s Honey Shack
This is where I've been keeping my local honey for two years. Most people come to julian for pie, but we always come because we're running out of honey to restock.
The shop is on the road to the small town of julian, and google map can locate it. They only sell local honey from San Diego county, and there are many varieties! There's a sign in the store that says which part of SD they're from.
The focus is still raw honey, and the flavors range from light to rich, depending on the type of flower. There are also several types of infusion honey。The price is rarely fair! Normal a small bottle as long as 8 to 9 knives, the larger the bottle the more cost-effective, hanging all farmers market。
I highly recommend beekeeper and coastal wildflower, both of which are full-bodied and 1008 times more flavorful than supermarket versions. For something bland, try raw citrus and grapefruit first. It's very refreshing! Highly recommend their homemade jam! We have to buy it every time we come. Low sugar and delicious taste!
