Constantine Brancusi was a Romanian-born sculptor, but spent most of his life working in Paris, the center of modern European art. He was born in 1876, a period of great change in art, with the emergence of Impressionism, which then led to Cubism, and then to modern art.

Brancusi believes that the relationship between sculpture and the space it occupies is crucial. In the 1910s, by arranging sculptures in tight spatial relationships, he created new works in his studio that he called "moving groups", emphasizing the importance of the connections between the works themselves and the possibility of each work moving within the group.

Brancusi's studio became a work of art in its own right and began creating "moving group" sculptures that would coexist with each other, changing the relationship between space and sculpture.

📖

120 years ago, a young artist trekked across Europe from his native Romania and settled in Paris. In this bustling city full of art, artists have invented a whole new way of sculpting, a universal language that uses direct engraving techniques to produce simple shapes.

His work soon created a great fascination among his contemporaries: many artists and admirers came to visit his studio in Impasse Ronsin (15th arrondissement). This is where he lived, created and displayed his work.

Seeing the exhibition of the new Pompidusin, the exhibition of my favorite modern sculpture artist Brancusi, I was immediately excited, if you are in Paris, it must be worth going to see the scene.

The exhibition runs from March 27 to July 1, 2024. This seems to be the first time in 20 or 30 years that Pompidou has held a retrospective exhibition on Brancusi.

Featuring more than 120 of the artist's sculptures and 400 works in various forms, including photography, film and painting, the retrospective focuses on the artist's studio reproductions and the iconic themes he continues to explore.

We don't have to question how far Pompidou will go with the theme of the retrospective. In addition to sculptures, including photographs, drawings, films, etc., from his arrival in Paris at the age of 28, his life will be spread out in front of you.

Atelier Brancusi next to the Pompidou, Brancusi is one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, a pioneer of modernist sculpture. The white and simple modern gallery light and shadow are in perfect harmony with the spatial hierarchy of the geometric sculptures. The area is small but the works are dense and each window can be viewed quietly for a long time.

Through the glass house to see the warm shop inside, before I looked at the picture book. The space is small and lovely, with lots of details displayed in different areas. If you want to go to the Pompidou exhibition, this can go to see.
